Pawlunteer: volunteer management made for animal shelters

Pawlunteer replaces the email chains, the spreadsheet of hours, the phone calls about who can’t make Tuesday, and the afternoon each month spent adding up points by hand. Set up the way your shelter already works.

One place for your whole volunteer program

Built with shelter staff and volunteers, for the way shelters actually run: weekly shifts, fosters, screening, a tablet by the door, and recognition that follows your own rules.

Pawlunteer: volunteer management made for animal shelters, with a phone showing a volunteer dropping a Saturday shift and the spot offered to six dog walking volunteers

Four jobs Pawlunteer does so your team doesn't have to

1 of 4

Email that answers what just happened

Today

Email goes out on a date someone remembered to set, or not at all.

With Pawlunteer

An application arrives, a volunteer is accepted, a shift opens up, a certificate is about to run out: the right email goes out on its own.

Replies stay on the volunteer’s record

Today

A volunteer answers, and the reply sits in one coordinator’s inbox.

With Pawlunteer

The reply lands on the volunteer’s record, where the whole team can see the conversation.

Volunteers drop a shift themselves

Today

Every “I can’t make Tuesday” is a phone call and a hole in the schedule.

With Pawlunteer

Volunteers drop a date themselves, regular weekly shifts included. The spot is offered to others and staff see it straight away.

Points that follow your rules

Today

Someone spends an afternoon a month working out recognition points by hand.

With Pawlunteer

Choose what an hour earns, give any role its own rate or limit, decide whether fostering counts, and add a waiting period. Pawlunteer applies your rules each month and staff see what to give each person.

Set up the way your shelter works

Every shelter runs its program differently. You choose the roles, rules and words in Settings, and change them whenever you like.

  • Applications and onboarding

Your roles, your questions. Each role’s checklist shows what a new volunteer still needs and whether it’s waiting on them or on you.

  • Screening rules

When an answer needs a closer look, a rule tells the people you choose, adds a program or adds a step to that person’s checklist.

  • Scheduling

Set weekly shifts and open shifts, choose how close to a shift volunteers can drop it, and which roles need staff approval to sign up.

  • The clock

A tablet by the door at each location, with a name and PIN, a badge, or both. When the alarm goes, staff see who is on site right now.

  • Training and qualifications

Mark the few roles that need training or a certificate, how long each lasts, and whether a lapsed one stops a sign-up.

  • Email and text, both ways

Messages go out when things happen, written in your own templates, and replies thread onto the volunteer’s record.

  • Reports and dashboards

Reports that start with the question you want answered, ready for board meetings, grants and the monthly recognition run.

  • Your look and your words

Your logo and colours on what volunteers see. If you call volunteers, roles or training something else, Pawlunteer uses your words.

Your volunteers' information, looked after

A shelter holds police checks and medical notes. Pawlunteer is built to hold as little as it can and guard the rest.

  • Police checks, criminal record answers and confidential notes can only be reached by administrators, enforced where the data is read, not just hidden on a screen.
  • Medical and allergy notes are seen only by the staff who need them.
  • No date of birth is ever asked for. Volunteers confirm they’re old enough.
  • When someone asks to be removed, an administrator erases their personal details in one step. Their hours stay, with nothing to identify them, so reports still add up.
  • Built to WCAG AA accessibility standards, with large buttons and plain words, because many volunteers are retired and on a phone.

Questions shelters ask

When can my shelter start using Pawlunteer?

Pawlunteer is in its final round of testing. Ask for early access and I’ll be in touch as soon as it opens to new shelters, with a walkthrough built around your own program.

How much will it cost?

One plan with everything a shelter uses every day included, priced by how many active volunteers you have. Applicants, people still being screened and people who have left aren’t counted. You’ll get your price in a short conversation, not a sales funnel.

Can we bring our volunteers and history with us?

Yes. Bring your volunteers, hours and history from your current system or a spreadsheet. Pawlunteer matches people by email and shows you every difference before anything is changed.

Our program works differently from other shelters. Will it fit?

That’s the point of it. Roles, forms, screening rules, scheduling rules, points and even the words Pawlunteer uses are all set in Settings, and you can change them whenever you like.

Who builds Pawlunteer?

Pawlunteer is designed and built by Corey Paskewitz at Corvian Labs in Cambridge, Ontario, the same person you’ll talk to about setting it up.
